Aspen Valley
Aspen Valley

I've been a Model Railroader for over 25 years. My most recent layout is the Aspen Valley which is a HO-HOn3 layout based on the Rio Grande operations during the late 1960s and early 70s is the mountains of Colorado and Utah.

Unfortunately, I had to shutdown the Aspen Valley in Nov 2003 when we sold our home and downsized to a condo.  I'm still an active railfan, but no longer in Model Railroading.  I've left this section of the web site active, so I can hold on to the memories.  I will be posted some additional photos taken during the final mainline movements on November 14th, 2003 in the near future.   With sadness, I understand that the new home owner is going to tear down the layout...
I've provided a small Photo Gallery, along with some background information and a few details surrounding the construction, controls and scenery.

Photo Gallery
Photo Gallery, I've provided a few photos of the Aspen Valley, taken along the way starting with room preparation. The most recent photos show the layout as it is today.

Layout Vision
Prototype Background, the Aspen Valley is a freelance railroad based heavily on the "Denver & Rio Grande Western" Railroad and it's operations during the late 60's and early 70's.

Layout Vision
Layout Vision, the Aspen Valley is a HO and HOn3 layout depicting several independent Scenic "Vistas" of Main Line Railroading thought the Rockies in western Colorado and eastern Utah.

Construction
Construction commenced in 1995 with room construction and the layout was operationally complete with a majority of the scenery in place for layout tours during the National NMRA Convention (NorthStar'99) which was held in Minneapolis/St.Paul in July of 1999.

Layout Controls
Layout Controls and electronics happens to be my passion and I devoted a significant amount of time and energy into wiring and creating a custom electronic and software system to control the Aspen Valley.

Scenery

Scenery and Structures, I have 50% of the scenery complete and many structures an bridges still under construction.  The good news is these minor discretions don't stop train movements, which occur regularly.
