The
Aspen Valley is a HO and HOn3 layout depicting several independent Scenic "Vistas" of Main Line Railroading thought the Rockies in
western Colorado and eastern Utah. I have some photos of the
Vista Windows in my
Photo Gallery, if your interested.
Two of the Vistas are only visible from windows in an adjoining Rec
Room.
The Narrow Gauge Vistas and the fictitious town of Collins are visible
as you enter the Layout Room.
The remaining Vistas surround you in the Main Layout room, which is
reached via a duck-under.
The layout's
Standard Gauge operational focus is on "Main Line" Operations, with
very limited switching opportunities except at a small Coal Loading
facility "The Triple K" and a short spur servicing a Power Plant and
freight bound for Collins.
Continuous train operations are provided by two Reversing Loops and 3
Sidings (2 of which are Hidden, to provide main line staging).
A branch line also provides staging of an
additional consist. The goal of the layout design is to prevent the
reversing loop's functionally from being visible.
The Narrow Gauge
Line is intended to add operational variety and provide a backdrop for
the old Mining community of "Collins" who's economy is now totally
based on tourism.
