The
Aspen Valley is controlled by a custom software application and
interfaces which provide automated cab, block and turnout route
assignments.
I've
dubbed control system the AVC (Aspen Valley Control) System.
I have some photos of the control area in my
Photo Gallery, if your interested.
 | At the heart of the controls is a Windows PC
using software which was created with Visual Basic v5.0,
which interfaces with various interface cards and circuitry to
control the layout.
|
 | The commercial products used are from TCH
Technology the remaining interface boards and controls were designed
and constructed by myself. Check out the Photo Gallery for
pictures of the AVC Control Center.
|
Train movement is
currently controlled by manual throttles, one of which is a Soundtraxx
Diesel Sound throttle equipped with a RF interface to provide maximum
mobility.
All rail has dedicated
power feeders and all layout wiring has been homerun and terminated in
a common location for connection to the computer interface. The Control Center is located in a hidden area which is
accessible via a 2nd duck under.
Future plans
include...
 | Conversion to DCC and On-Board Sound, with full
integration with the software application.
|
 | Implementation of a Handheld CE with a touch
screen interface
|
 | Installation and automation of Signaling
|
 | Installation and automation of Interior Building
Lighting
|
 | Automation of the Room Environment (Lighting,
Background Sounds, etc.) |
