I just happened to stumble upon this site and very glad I did. My dad, Martin Johann Lunde passed away in August 2000. We received a family tree from our relatives in Norway which was incomplete. My dad always asked me to finish it for him for my daughter (his granddaughter)and unfortunately time never let me do so. So now I'm seeking desperately for information and keep running into stumbling blocks. My grandfather was Mathia Lunde born 6/3/1881 and immigrated to Brooklyn in 1901. My uncle Sigurd was a famous artist and painter in Norway and in fact did an alter piece for a Church in Sauda. However cannot locate it. But I will keep trying.

Hi all Lundy and Lunde families. I am researching derivation of names. We have the Atlantic Puffin (Fratercula Arctica), and not the Puffinus Puffinus (which is the Manx Shearwater), which is called in Norwegian - Lunde and in Icelandic and on the Faeroe Islands the Lundi (they even eat them there). No doubt the name Lunde comes from the colourful bird name but the question is where does the name Lundy Island in the UK Bristol Channel come from. From the Puffins that live there or is that the derivation of the name. A bit chicken and egg game I guess. Certain is that Lundy is a derivation of Lunde and most probably Norwegian. Cheers Keith

Maternal Great-Grandfather named Charles Lundy. Had Red hair (perhaps a family trait that appears to skip generations in family ?), was a teacher of Latin and Greek.

Don't know much besides that he somehow had either passed through and settled, or was originally from Missouri, moving on to Oklahoma where my Granmother was born. Died in that state.

Heard something about a small isle off the Northern part of British Isles named "Lundy" - treated almost as if a seperate "state", if you will.

Much of it a mystery, lost to the past. Very interested in any new information...

Hi Ken & Dorothy! It was so fun meeting you in Norway and having such fun together while we were there. I will NEVER forget our FEDJE Island trip! Carrie and I will never forget our "Hop On-Hop Off" trip thru Scandanavia. While you were traveling north, we went south to Sunde and Haugesund. From our research on my Dads side, the name is from WIllIAM LUNDY of Belfast, Ireland, emigrating to Ft. Fairfield, Maine in 1846.
