Edvard Rasmussen Lunde
(My Grandfather, Father's Side)

My grandfather was Edvard (Edward) Lundy, he was born in 1886 and passed away in 1941.  He immigrated to Bancroft Iowa from Norway in 1906.  He married Severina Erickson Sandvik in 1909 after she joined him in the United States.

They had seven children five sons (Randall, Harold Martin, Merlin, Clarence and Harold Sigval) and two daughters (Mabel and Velma) which were all born in Webster City between 1910 and 1922.  Randall, Clarence, Mabel and Velma all married and remained in central Iowa or southern Minnesota.  Harold Martin died when he was a young child and Merlin remained single and continued to live in the family home in Webster City for many years.

His name was spelled Edvard Rasmussen Lunde according to his immigration records when he left Norway.  It appears that our last name was changed to Lundy when he went through immigration and his middle name to Edward.

He grew up on the island Rodøy, in the parish of Manger in the town and farm of Lunde.  The island of Rodøy is north of Begen on the west coast of Norway.  In May of 2001 we traveled to Norway to meet up with many of our relatives and to visit the family farm.

My grandfather's parents were Rasmus Olsen Lunde and Anna Ingebrigtsdtr Ystebö, he had eight brothers and sisters.  My grandfather was the only sibling to immigrate and remain in the United States.  A generation later descendants of his older brother (Peder) immigrated to the Seattle area and I have several relatives who still live there.

I have been able to trace back 8-9 generations of the Lunde's and Ystebö's,  please see my Ancestor and Descendant Charts for more details.

You many also want to take a look at Ole Rasmussen Lunde's Descendant Chart and Report he was my 8th great grand father.

Severina Ericksdtr Sandvik
(My Grandmother, Father's Side)

My grandmother was Severina Eriksdtr Sandvik, she was born in 1883 and passed away in 1959.  She immigrated to Iowa from Norway in 1907.  She married Edvard Lunde in 1909 after she joined him in the United States.

They had six children four sons (Randall, Harold Martin, Merlin and Clarence) and two daughters (Mabel and Velma) which were all born in Webster City between 1910 and 1922.  Randall, Clarence, Mabel and Velma all married and remained in central Iowa or southern Minnesota.  Harold Martin died when he was a young child and Merlin remained single and continued to live in the family home in Webster City for many years.

Her name was spelled Severina Eriksdtr Sandvik according to her immigration records when she left Norway.  It appears that her middle name may have changed when she went through immigration.  Here records in Iowa show the spelling as Erickson, which is the naming convention that would have been reserved for the male member of the family vs the female.  We are assuming her father's name was Erik or Erick based on Norwegian naming conventions.

I believe she lived grew up in the county of Luster (Lyster). I have no additional information on her family in Norway at this time.  This will be my focus during my next trip to Norway.
